THE GLOBAL MARKET INTELLIGENCE DESK

How big is the market you could serve?

Combine countries into a potential audience, then separate population, demographics and consumer expenditure from the customers your business can realistically reach. Every figure links to its official definition.

Methodology and full explorer ↗

EU-27 is the formal EU membership set. The Europe preset sums entire countries including transcontinental Russia and Türkiye, not their Europe-only populations; microstates may be missing from the source. “English-speaking core” names six chosen markets, not a count of fluent English speakers. Country selection persists across pages during this browser session. For full-world comparisons, countries without dedicated payment guides are also available when the official directory loads.

HOW TO READ THESE FIGURES

Reachable shoppers are not the same as residents.

National population and economic totals can support early market prioritization, but real merchant opportunity requires a second layer of research.

01 / PEOPLE

Population and demographics

Use total resident population and the country-reported female/male populations. These counts include minors and people who may not be eligible buyers.

02 / ECONOMIC SCALE

GDP versus consumer expenditure

GDP measures the value of production, not disposable household income. Household & NPISH final consumption expenditure is closer to household demand, but does not equal addressable ecommerce spending.

03 / MERCHANT REACH

Payments, language and eligibility

A merchant may be unable to serve residents due to shipping, language, industry rules, local payment support, underwriting or required legal entities. Use country guides to verify feasibility.

04 / DATA ACCURACY

Missing years and unmatched coverage

The calculator lists each metric’s source year and number of countries with data. An aggregate mixing years is flagged and is not a same-year economic total. Missing observations are excluded, not treated as zero.

SOURCE METHODOLOGY

Verifiable numbers. Defined assumptions.

Data is retrieved in the browser from the World Bank Indicators API (WDI, source 2), with historical observations from 2021–2025. No inferred 2026 population counts or fabricated consumer reach metrics. The country-list request includes countries beyond PaymentSolutions.app’s editorial payment guides. Statistics remain unavailable when the official API does not return an observation.

Indicators: total population; female population; male population; GDP, current US$; households and NPISHs final consumption, current US$; and individuals using the internet (% of population). A same-year internet-user estimate multiplies the official percentage by the total resident count for the indicator year. This proxy is not the number of online buyers, adults, card users or payment-ready customers. The country preset is a defined country-code list rather than an assumption that every resident speaks the preset language.

Summed monetary values use nominal current USD, not PPP-adjusted value; interpretations of mixed-year dollar totals are limited. The tool never claims these are disposable income or aggregate personal earnings. Growth comparisons are only shown when comparable historical observations exist and are explicitly defined. Contact providers directly to determine merchant eligibility and payment acceptance.

TURN THE MARKET INTO A PAYMENT PLAN

Demand is only half of the expansion decision.

Now consider whether buyers can actually pay your business, what methods they prefer, how your merchant entity contracts and how you settle funds.
